Gateacre Community Comprehensive is the flagship school of Liverpool’s Building Schools for the Future programme. Opened in September 2011 it is a successful atrium model school, creating a landmark building with a highly efficient and innovative arrangement for a school. It has been exciting to see the school in use, and pleasing to discover its popularity with the staff and pupils, who are in agreement that it creates a vibrant, social environment. The nature of the design allows the school to fulfil a key objective in attracting the wider community through its doors and performing a civic role. Jamie was design architect leading the architecture from the start of the project, through concept to RIBA Stage D.
