Woodchurch is an ‘Outstanding’ High School on the Wirral, with excellent pastoral care founded upon traditional educational values, Jamie was the Project Architect for this new school built under the government’s Academy Framework. Working closely with the Head and the local authority his response was to develop a mix of key features from traditional school buildings with a sequence of inspirational new spaces at the heart of the school.
Externally traditional brickwork is handled in a modern fashion creating large windows and a layered façade giving the school both solidity and a depth of surface. Most importantly the architectural response came from careful listening and an understanding of the client’s needs and wishes.
He took the project from concept to completion in an intense two and a half year period with the school opening in September 2010.
